Maneki neko
"Beckoning cat"


The cat is called "Maneki Neko - Beckoning Cat-" .

Figurine in the shape of a sitting at with one paw upraised, as though
making the customary Japanese gesture used in beckoning to people.
Often displayed prominently at the front of shops and businesses that
rely on heavy customer traffic.
It is believed to "beckon" good fortune and business success.
Usually constructed of papier-mashe or pottery, some Manekineko have the right
front paw raised and some the left front paw.
Right paw raising cat is believed to invite good fortune of money,
left paw raising cat is believed to invite lucky encounting with people.


The cat is thought to invite prosperity and good fortune and
is often displayed at traditional shops.
