This place is called DOMA, an unfloored part of the old Japanese house, especially in rural districts. Cooking was also done on this part with some rooms opening to it.

The square in the middle of this room is ˜F-RO- inset hearth. It is used to hold an iron kettle, “S•rTETSUBIN.The visiter, sitting on the bench, is holding KISERU (tobacco pipe)
