Hi, everyone! We receive many questions about Kimono keeping.
Let us share with you how Natsu-san is doing in her Kimono life!

vol. 6 : How can we read "WASHING INSTRUCTIONS"

Some of our Kimono, Hakama, Samue and other clothings might have LABELS of washing instruction. Some of Japanese instructions must be very difficult for you to keep your Kimono/Hakama properly. So, please let me share "how to read" them today. Some you the signs are very easy to understand.

MACHINE WASHABLE
You can wash the item by washing machine. Use the water, limited upto 40 centigrade hot.
The above sign of the 40 says SOFT.
If you have an instruction under the machine, just like left one, this instruction says USE WASHING NET.

HAND WASH
This means "WASH BY HANDS".
The number, 30 means the water should be under 30 centigrade hot.
MUST NOT CHLONIC ACID BLEACH
This seems to be same as
Do not bleach by chlonic acid bleacher.
WARM IRON
Iron by warm temperature. (140 centigrade under 160 centigrade.)
The wave under the iron sign is "CLOTH" Do iron with "press cloth " to avoid the fabric burning/deterioration.

This sign is HOT IRON (180 centigrade to 210 centigrade hot)
This means COLD IRON (80-120)
DRY CLEANING OK
This means "DRY CLEANING OK".
Some of this mark has Japanese under the circle, which instruct the cleanser for the dry cleaning.
HANG DRY / DRY IN SHADE
This mark is same as .
This is HANG DRY instruction =
And this means FLAT DRY = .

DO NOT TUMBLE DRY
Japanese labels do not have the instruction sings of "TUMBLE DRY"s.
Please be noted the japanese "タンブラー乾燥は避けてください。 "
These are the most popular marks. I hope the above will be of some help for all of you!
